Staff/Project Hydrogeologist

Luhdorff and Scalmanini, Consulting Engineers (LSCE) is a groundwater consulting firm with office locations in northern California (Sacramento area (Woodland and Roseville), Bay Area (Daly City), and Chico, central California (Fresno) and in Boise, Idaho. LSCE provides engineering, hydrogeologic, and related groundwater services to municipalities, water districts, and other public and private entities throughout California. We seek a motivated and versatile Hydrogeologist to join our team of water resources and engineering professionals in a full-time position in any of our office locations. The Hydrogeologist will be a part of a diverse group of water resources scientists and engineers working in a high-paced setting on projects throughout California. The successful candidate will work closely with LSCE project managers and other staff to provide expertise in the development of hydrogeologic conceptual models, fieldwork, groundwater modeling, data collection and interpretation and analysis, GIS spatial analysis, and report writing.

RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to): 

  • Working with various types of hydrologic, engineering, and hydrogeologic data
  • Working in small groups with a project manager
  • Participates in permitting and environmental review functions related to groundwater issues and development of water supply projects.
  • Preparation of written documents and client deliverables, including technical presentations, reports, technical memorandums,  tables, graphs, charts, and hydrogeologic-related maps.
  • Ensuring that projects and tasks are designed and conducted in accordance with applicable regulations, guidance, or client-specified requirements.
  • Provide field and office support on a variety of water resources projects
  • Data collection, processing, analysis, and interpretation including:
    • Familiarity with online sources of hydrologic, hydrogeologic, and geologic data and documents
    • Familiarity with field groundwater level and quality data collection methods
    • Geologic and hydrogeologic cross-section development utilizing geologic and geophysical data
    • Collection of geologic samples from drilling operations, description, and analysis
    • Geospatial and geostatistical analysis
    • Interpretation of subsurface aquifer conditions
    • Development of water budgets and conceptual models
  • Hydrographs and other graphic presentation of hydrogeologic data
  • Learn to develop and calibrate models ranging from analytical to complex transient, basin-scale numerical flow and solute transport, process model input and output data, and develop and run predictive scenarios
  • Aquifer test data collection and analysis

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.S. degree in Geology and M.S. degree in  Hydrogeology or related disciplines
  • Desire to become a licensed Geologist in California
  • Strong foundation in geology and hydrogeology concepts
  • Careful attention to detail, accuracy, and consistency along with critical thinking skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with others
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
  • Strong technical writing, spelling, and grammar skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Hydrogeology or geology-related consulting work experience following academic coursework
  • Skills in the use of scientific software Python, R, MATLAB, etc.) and ArcGIS
  • Database development and application using Access
  • Experienced with geospatial analysis and geostatistics in ArcGIS
  • Familiar with California geology and hydrogeology

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

LSCE offers a competitive salary ($60,000 to $130,000/year, depending on qualifications) and a comprehensive benefits package. LSCE benefits include health, dental, life, 401k, and profit-sharing retirement plans.
