Position Summary

We seek a motivated and versatile Field Geologist to join our team of water resources and engineering professionals in a full-time position in our Woodland office location. The Field Geologist will be a part of a diverse group of water resources scientists and engineers working in a high-paced setting on projects throughout California. The successful candidate will work primarily with our Well and Monitoring Well Group in conducting site assessments and investigations, overseeing well drilling and installation operations along with field data collection activities involving collection of groundwater level and quality samples. The successful candidate will also prepare project specifications, project permits, interpret geophysical logs and lithologic logs, oversee project implementation, and prepare reports.

This position requires some lifting of heavy objects as well as exposure to outdoor site conditions – noise, dust, equipment exhaust, hazardous materials, and variable weather conditions. Position will require approximately 75% fieldwork and overnight travel within California.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Exploration drilling oversight
  • Oversight of the construction of monitoring wells and production wells,
  • Lithologic interpretation of borehole samples and geologic log preparation,
  • Well development and testing oversight,
  • Water quality sampling and reporting,
  • Permitting assistance,
  • Construction workplan compliance,
  • Installation and maintenance of automated water level monitoring equipment,
  • Report preparation.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in groundwater or water resources projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and experience including field hydrogeology, well design,
  • Well installation and drilling operations experience,
  • Aquifer testing oversight
  • Excellent verbal and written communication,
  • Organizational skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software and GIS software
  • Professional Geologist license, or who is on track for licensing, is preferred.

Salary and Benefits:

LSCE offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package. Salary will be dependent upon qualifications and experience. LSCE benefits include health, dental, life, and 401k and profit-sharing retirement plans. This is an hourly position. The minimum hourly rate is $33/hour to $50/hour, not including overtime.
