Hiring, Senior Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Engineer position is an excellent opportunity for an experienced professional with a demonstrated record of success to make a difference to a growing mid-sized firm. We are seeking someone with a solid background in water resources engineering, project management, and business development. The successful candidate must strive to solve problems and provide sound guidance to clients. LSCE’s current team includes senior, project, and staff engineers that work together on many projects; the successful candidate will be integrated into current project teams. Our engineers enjoy the opportunity to be involved in a variety of projects and all aspects from proposals to client interaction, design, permitting compliance, and construction management. LSCE staff have expertise in design of wells and pump stations, water treatment plants, reservoir and booster stations, and water system evaluations such as water master plans and other technical studies.

RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to): 

  • Oversee and be in responsible charge of water resources engineering projects and business development.
  • Perform well design, evaluation of well and pump performance, well modification, well rehabilitation, and well destruction work for municipal, industrial, and agricultural production wells.
  • Prepare civil and mechanical designs for municipal drinking water infrastructure, agricultural water systems, and other water supply or injection systems.
  • Prepare design plans and specifications for construction, detailed cost estimates, ensure compliance with codes and permitting, and manage specialty sub-consultants and contractors for electrical, structural and geotechnical engineering.
  • Perform engineering calculations and analysis of aquifer formation materials, fluid properties and chemistry in the analysis of existing wells.   
  • Incorporate understanding of hydrogeologic setting, well pumps and above ground conveyance and treatment facilities during well design.
  • Prepare engineering calculations and analysis of hydraulic systems for the design of well pumps, booster pumps, hydropneumatics tanks, storage reservoirs and process controls.
  • Incorporate drinking water treatment systems, including groundwater and surface water treatment, into design plans and specifications.
  • Perform construction management, including meetings with contractor and client, project schedule and budget management, requests for information and submittals, and conducting inspections.
  • Perform well rehabilitation, including evaluation and diagnosis of water well problems, evaluation of well and pump efficiency, and a wide variety of rehabilitation programs to address such problems as sand production, biofouling, and adverse water quality impacts. Selection of chemicals for rehabilitation, including sodium hypochlorite, variety of acids, surfactants, polymeric dispersants, carbon dioxide, nitrogen and anoxic block control systems. Responsible for developing mechanical methods for rehabilitation, including rotary brushing, line brushing/swabbing, airlifting/pumping, and sonar jetting.
  • Design injection wells with an understanding of current regulations and permitting processes for EPA Class I and II injection wells.
  • Develop and implement well construction, well modification and destruction programs for private, state and federal agencies for wells ranging in diameter from 4 inches to 20 inches, and depths to 2,000 feet or greater.  Types of wells consist of water supply, injection, monitoring, dewatering, and extraction wells.
  • Perform assessments of existing well structures for well modifications to control sand production and gas production to improve water quality and well performance. 
  • Interpret specifications and change order requests.
  • Conduct contractor negotiations.
  • Project management, project development and oversight, including technical review of work by others, mentoring and providing clear direction to support staff, collaboration with other professionals, and managing scopes, budgets and schedules across multiple projects.
  • Business development, including networking, grant funding opportunities, proposal writing, preparing scopes of work, project budgets, project management, and schedules.
  • Interact with clients and regulators, provide professional expertise and guidance to clients, satisfy project objectives and manage client expectations, conduct meetings, and provide presentations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or another appropriate engineering degree.
  • Professional Civil Engineering License in CA
  • Minimum 20 years of professional engineering experience in water resources.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong technical knowledge and background in water resources, fluid and porous media mechanics, well design and rehabilitation, and consulting.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage staff, competing priorities, and project deadlines.
  • Proven record of business development in both competitive and non-competitive settings.
  • Highly motivated, possesses strong critical thought and management skills.

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or another appropriate engineering degree.
  • Proficient in hydraulic modeling software.
  • Strong background in groundwater and surface water treatment, pump design, and municipal drinking water standards.
  • Familiar with California water resources, and drinking water permitting.
  • Familiar with recent California groundwater sustainability legislation and regulations.
  • Ability to identify and obtain grant funding as part of business development.
