About LSCE

“…we owe it to try and preserve the resource for future generations…”

Joseph C. Scalmanini, Quote from acceptance speech for Groundwater Resources Association Lifetime Achievement Award

Luhdorff & Scalmanini Consulting Engineers (LSCE) was founded in 1980 in acknowledgement of California’s increasing reliance on groundwater resources and with an understanding of the unique skills required to meet the needs of water resource managers and water users.

Now in our fourth decade, we continue that approach with a commitment to professionalism, lasting relationships, and leadership among groundwater professionals in California.

Our engineers, geologists, hydrologists, and hydrogeologists are committed to the highest standards of performance whether developing new methods to analyze groundwater quantity and quality across the entire Central Valley, developing a conjunctive use program for the City and County of San Francisco, or designing and constructing municipal supply wells and pump stations for Discovery Bay. We employ the best available technologies and analytical expertise in the design of water supply systems and analysis of groundwater resources across California’s varied hydrogeologic settings.

LSCE has, and continues to build lasting relationships based on performance and mutual understanding. Our capacity to perform is enhanced by our ability to communicate effectively with our clients and incorporate a multi-disciplinary approach to many projects. This includes learning from our clients and anticipating their needs so they can stay ahead of regulatory requirements and operate more efficiently.

As leaders in groundwater management and development, we go beyond the basic demands of business to advance our profession. LSCE’s founding partners, Eugene Luhdorff and Joseph Scalmanini, received the first and one of the most recent Lifetime Achievement Awards from Groundwater Resources Association of California (GRA), respectively. Vicki Kretsinger Grabert, the president and one of the principals of LSCE, was GRA’s founding president (1992 and 1993) and has served as a director since 1992. In addition, our staff members regularly collaborate with other professionals to plan conferences, present the results of our work, or discuss groundwater issues and regulatory policy.

We take pride in being a California-based business. California is our home and our focus. We appreciate the opportunity to serve our clients, and we look forward to speaking with you about your groundwater-related needs.
